FIREFLIES is a collection of lyric poems—formal and informal— that seek solace in nature and memory for the heartache of being human.
From children chasing fireflies at night to middle agers chasing lost loves at three in the morning, they trace the compromises we make to make it—the dead mice, cats, fetuses, and loves left in our wakes. And they celebrate the tenuous survival of trees, love, and innocence.

From the preface:
“The Concept of Anxiety is one of Kierkegaard’s major works. It summarizes and anticipates themes that are developed in his other works, but not by presenting a unified perception. It has more the character of a work that constitutes a turning point: themes from earlier works (in particular Either/Or) are pursued in a broken way that gives a new starting point for later works. Even though The Concept of Anxiety is often an unreasonably difficult book, it is worthwhile to read as a gateway to the entire works of Kierkegaard.

Resources for preachers steadily appear, called forth by the perennial need on the part of working pastors for helpful and inspirational materials backed by tested experience, reverent scholarship, and creative insights. The essays in this book are of that cast, and each essay is the work of an experienced practitioner-scholar in the field of preaching. The chapters focus on the preaching ministry of Gardner Calvin Taylor, in whose honor the volume was prepared. They are offered, with affection and esteem, by colleagues, students, and friends, fellow preachers all, whose own attempts to speak the unsearchable riches of Christ owe much to the life and labors of Gardner C. Taylor.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 12, 1942 as the middle of three boys, Charles Campbell grew up on a small cattle farm outside Jackson, Georgia, where he attended the public schools. While a student at the University of Georgia in 1965, he accepted an offer to join the staff of Senator Richard B. Russell in Washington DC on one condition—that he be allowed to attend law school at night. It had been his dream since high school to be a trial lawyer.

Thomas Jefferson — author of the Declaration of Independence, diplomat and president of the United States — is the most widely studied and genuinely representative Founding Father of his age. Bassani surveys Jefferson’s views on the rights of man and state’s rights — the core of all his political ideas. After careful examination of his political theory, Jefferson is recognized as a champion of limited government, natural rights and antagonism of the states towards interference by federal powers.

By author: Aristotle Translated by: David Bolotin

David Bolotin's translation of Aristotle's DE ANIMA, or ON SOUL, aims above all at fidelity to the Greek. It treats Aristotle as a teacher regarding what soul really is, and hence it tries to convey the meaning--to the extent possible in English--of his every word. The translation itself is supplemented with footnotes, some of which, when taken together, sketch the outline of an overall interpretation of the work. For readers--including those who may already know some Greek--who wish to study DE ANIMA with care, it offers access that has hitherto been unavailable in English to the precise meaning of Aristotle's text.

The focus of this volume is on the varieties of religious experiences in sports on the global stage. The first generation of sports and religion scholars debated the ways sports intersected with or even replaced traditional religions and investigated self-identified religious adherents and institutions that have used sports in traditional religious contexts. Our task here is to expand, revise, and complicate this conversation. The essays in this volume look both within and beyond conventional frames to shine a light on the many facets of this endlessly compelling topic.

In his third book of poetry, William Woolfitt reflects on experiences of hope and despair, on ecological crisis and violence and stubborn survival, on Lucille Clifton's imperative to "bloom how you must" and on Gerard Manley Hopkins' vision of a grandeur-charged world. Set in Appalachia, Costa Rica, Afghanistan, Newfoundland, Mali, and elsewhere, SPRING UP EVERLASTING attempts to listen to and learn from the stories of people who have resisted the destruction and desecration of their environments, families, homes, and bodies.
