At the time of his death in 1959, Eugene W. Stetson, past-President and Chairman of the Board of Guaranty Trust Company of New York, was one of the nation's great financial magnates. A man of energy, intelligence, and character, he carried the traditional values and moral seriousness of the nineteenth-century South through the great changes of the twentieth century. He was also by nature a problem solver who lent his talents to the larger community, and a Mercerian who served his beloved alma mater through a lifetime of devoted service.
Adrienne Moore Bond is Assistant Professor of English at Mercer.
