As long as there have been Baptists in America, there have been female Baptist ministers and preachers. Unfortunately, some Baptist denominations have not always been kind to them. Due to theological debate, often the existence of these female ministers has been ignored, and their words have not been recorded. This book of sermons seeks to record the words, insights, and experiences of several women ministers and preachers so as not to become part of the lost generations of women who have gone before them. This book is practical in its arrangement for classroom use or group readings.

Revivals are an integral part of Baptist life. Just as Baptists share key convictions regarding believer's baptism, congregational governance, and religious freedom, they have also widely adopted common practices. Revivals have contributed immensely to the vitality and growth of Baptists worldwide. This volume is a contribution to the theme of Baptist revivals. It explores the central role played by revivalism for Baptist life in the U.S. and Canada, Britain and Continental Europe, and the Majority world. For 250 years, beginning with the Great Awakening in the mid-eighteenth century, and in almost every place they have established churches, Baptists have embraced the practice of revivalism.

Middletown Baptist Church in Monmouth County ("Old First Church" since 1963) is the oldest Baptist congregation in New Jersey and one of the constituting churches of the Philadelphia Baptist Association in 1707. Church meeting minutes, membership rolls, congregational correspondence, and personal letters cover the period 1712 to 1811. The earliest years after the church's founding in 1688 are largely unknown due to discord and subsequent excision of records. Records for the years 1741 to 1785 are incomplete, but transcribed entries from "Elder Mott's Journal" provide a first-hand account of the church's life during that period.
