This is not intended to be a history of the doctrine of the Atonement. Rather it is a (practical) discussion, in topical form, of the doctrine of the Atonement as related to various segments and phases of Christian life and experience.
The substance and methodology of this practical study are involved with both biblical and historical matters. But, throughout, the discussion centers on the theology of the Atonement. Written out of a background of a lifetime of teaching the Atonement to seminary classes, and from the perspective of a lifetime involvement with the “community of the Atonement”—the Church, The Atoning Gospel will be helpful to all those who seek a deeper understanding of that doctrine which is at the heart of the Christian faith and life.
